FA extends Mohammed Kudus ban by two matches after review

Mohammed Kudus lost his head in the 82nd minute of West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham in October, shoving and hitting multiple Spurs players

News Insights

  • West Ham signed Kudus from Ajax last season.
  • Kudus received a three-match ban for a red card against Spurs.
  • The FA reviewed Kudus’ red card.
  • Kudus’ ban has been extended by two matches.

After losing his head against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in Matchweek 8, West Ham attacker Mohammed Kudus was sent off and issued a three-match ban by the English Football Association (FA).

This Saturday’s match against Everton was supposed to be the final match of Kudus' suspension. The FA now say that the 24-year-old Ghana international will have to sit out another two matches.

FA hand further ban

In a statement released on Wednesday, the FA revealed that they had completed their review of Mohammed Kudus’ 82nd red card against Tottenham in EPL Matchweek 8.

The FA alleged that “Mohammed Kudus acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence that he was sent off for.”

According to the statement, Kudus “admitted to this charge, and he has been given a two-match suspension and £60,000 fine by the Regulatory Commission.”

This new two-match ban goes on top of the three-match ban he received for his red card.

Kudus will now miss Saturday’s fixture against Everton and West Ham’s matches against Newcastle United (Nov. 25) and Arsenal (Nov. 30) after the November international break.

West Ham also sanctioned

In addition to reviewing Kudus’ red card, the FA also alleged that West Ham “failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way around the 82nd minute” in the match against Tottenham.

West Ham accepted the charges and were fined £30,000 by the FA’s independent Regulatory Commission.

In their own statement, West Ham said the club is “disappointed with the outcome.” However, they added that “ it respects the process that has been undertaken.”

West Ham vs. Everton preview

West Ham will host Everton at the London Stadium on Saturday (2:00 AM AEDT on Sunday). Regardless of the FA’s independent review on Wednesday, the Hammers were going to be without Mohammed Kudus for this match.

Even with the star forward out, the betting sites are semi-confident that the Hammers will get a win this weekend.

PlayUp gives West Ham $2.15 odds to win compared to Everton’s $3.30 chances. Additionally, the Hammers are listed as -1.5 goal favourites.
