Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has called for an apology from Fulham this week after the Cottagers’ TikTok account posted a video seemingly mocking Bruno Fernandes for diving and faking an injury in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Fulham in EPL Matchweek 26.
Ten Hag was asked about the video at his press conference ahead of the upcoming Manchester Derby between Man City and Man United this weekend. At time of writing, Fulham have not issued an apology or any statement regarding the video that has the Man United boss so upset.
Fernandes video goes viral
Bruno Fernandes is one of the best players in the Premier League right now. He’s also one of the most criticised. Some of this criticism is unfair and just the typical criticism any Manchester United captain would get. Other critiques are more fair.
In his three-and-a-half seasons in the Premier League Fernandes has earned a reputation for being a bit of a diver and a complainer. He regularly begs for calls from referees after going to the ground a little too easily. This was on full display against Fulham.
The Manchester United captain went down after a light challenge and writhed around on the ground, waving his arms to get the referee’s attention. When the referee didn’t bite, Fernandes sprung up to his feet, looking completely fine and uninjured.
Clips of this moment went viral on social media, racking up millions of views on multiple platforms.
Fulham got in on the action, after their win against Manchester United. The club posted a video of the incident to their official TikTok account with the caption “so glad he's OK,” which was followed by an eye-rolling emoji.
“It is not right,” says Ten Hag
Erik Ten Hag was asked about the incident and the video at a press conference on Thursday in Manchester. The Dutch manager lashed out at Fulham for posting the video.
“It is not right,” Ten Hag said. “It is absolutely not right that a clip makes such statements. It is totally out of order and they were wrong so they should apologise for this,” he also added emphatically.
Neither club has addressed the video. However, according to reports from England, Manchester United have called Fulham’s decision to publish that post “regrettable.”
Manchester United’s next match is the Manchester Derby against Man City. The betting sites don’t give the Red Devils a chance in that match. PlayUp has Man City as the second biggest favourites in the Premier League this weekend. Only Arsenal, who are playing Sheffield United, are bigger favourites in their respective Matchweek 27 fixtures.
