Esports Betting Sites in Australia

Esports certainly don’t have the same level of popularity as some of the biggest sports in Australia – the likes of Australian Rules Football, cricket, basketball and the like. However, they do have a dedicated army of followers, and with all the lockdowns we’ve had to endure over the past couple of years, that army has only grown. With this growth in popularityinvariably comes betting odds, anda growing number of betting sites now have esports betting markets. On this page, we’ll take a look at this developing area in detail.

Boombet

Bombet Esports Betting

Boombet hasn’t technically been around for more than a few years, but in reality, they’ve operated under another name since way back in 1998. One of their flaws remains that they don’t have an enormous range of different sports betting markets, but one of the things that they do cover is esports. They offer a basic selection of esports markets, with head-to-head odds on upcoming matchups. The esports betting odds aren’t spectacular, but nonetheless they are one of relatively few esports betting sites in Australia, so if this is your jam they’re worth checking out.

Bet365

Bet365 Esports Betting

Bet365 is one of the biggest betting sites in the world, and perhaps the most notable feature of theirs is the extraordinary range of different sports, leagues and events that they offer markets for – something that makes them one of my favourite sites to bet with. With that in mind, it’s no great surprise that they are one of the handful of options for esports betting in Australia. And within their esports betting offering, they have an equally huge selection on offer. The Bet365 esports section includes markets on many, many different upcoming esports, and rather than just provide head-to-head odds like some esports betting sites, they often have in excess of 100 markets for individual matchups. For DOTA2, for example, they have ‘First Player To’ markets, different map markets, and a whole lot more. What’s more, their esports betting odds are really, really good for these – among the best in the industry – so as far as esports betting sites go, Bet365 is one of the best options.

SouthernCrossBet

Southerncrossbet Esports Betting

SouthernCrossBet is a relatively small betting site, a family-owned operation out of regional Victoria. As is often the case with such small betting agencies, they don’t have a huge selection of markets available, but one thing which they do offer is esports betting. They cover quite a few different esports – not as many as Bet365 but more than Boombet – and while they don’t have a massive range of markets for those esports which they do cover, they have more than just head-to-head for some of the bigger events. Their odds are decent albeit unspectacular, in line with the odds available on the rest of their markets.

Very personalised experience! For the punters!

Picklebet

Picklebet Esports Betting

Ever since they launched in 2017, Picklebet have been the go to for esports betting online in Australia. Esports is certainly not my number one thing to bet on, but if ever I do, typically I would go straight to Picklebet. Not only do they have esports markets; they are a self-proclaimed esports betting site, focusing predominantly on this niche area of online betting. Over the years they’ve continued to grow the rest of their site so they now have a fairly comprehensive range of sports markets too, but it remains in esports where they excel.

And unlike other betting sites, Picklebet has an esports specific drop-down menu on the left, rather than simply putting these markets under ‘sport’. To see what I mean by this, take a look at the screenshot below.

If you’re into esports betting online, Picklebet have everything you could dream of; a multitude of markets on a wide range of different esports events. It’s plain to see why they claim to be the number one esports betting site in Australia.

Topsport

Topsport Esports Betting

Topsport aren’t exactly one of the many new betting sites in Australia; they have been around for quite a long time, but in that time they haven’t really established themselves as one of the biggest betting sites in Australia. Still, they have plenty going for them, and they also happen to be one of a handful of Australian betting sites to offer esports markets. They have a solid albeit unspectacular array of markets in this area, and they offer fairly competitive odds here too. With high betting limits and racing odds also among the best features of Topsport, this could be a good option for esports lovers who are also looking for those features.

Extensive range of markets with fair limits

Unibet Australia

Unibet Esports Betting

Unibet Australia is one of the biggest betting sites in the world, and all of the qualities which have made them so successful abroad were brought to Australia when they launched down under in 2012. The most notable of those qualities are great odds and an almost unmatched range of markets, and given the latter it’s no great surprise that they are one of the few sites in the country to offer esports odds. And those odds are, like the rest of the Unibet odds, extremely good. Unibet Australia offers a really good selection of different esports markets, each of them with very competitive odds, making this one of the best options that you have out there if you’re looking for esports betting sites.

Palmerbet

Palmerbet Esports Betting

Palmerbet often doesn’t get mentioned alongside the biggest names in the betting industry, but they do provide a very similar range of offerings to the betting sites which are generally viewed as the best in Australia. In my view they’re one of the most overlooked bookmakers, with their very good range of markets, excellent odds, and a nice app all among their most notable features. The latter of those don’t play much into why they would have esports markets, but the first certainly does. Covering so many sports means Palmerbet is more likely to have odds for less popular markets, making them a really good candidate as an esports betting site. You can access these odds in what is a good mobile app or on their website, and you’ll be greeted with a good selection of them and solid odds.

Best Esports Betting Sites 2024

In this section, we’re going to take a look at what we think are the best esports betting sites in 2023. Above, we took a look at all of our reviewed sites who offer esports betting; now let’s narrow that down even further, taking a look at which of those sites stand out above the rest.

The first of these is, probably unsurprisingly, Picklebet. This is undoubtedly one of the best esports betting sites in Australia – and my favourite, too. In fact, it’s the only Australian bookmaker that positions itself as an esports betting site – the others mentioned on this page are sports and racing betting sites that just happen to have esports markets. Picklebet, in contrast, started as a place for esports lovers to place bets on esports events. Over time they have expanded and now have a pretty solid selection of sports markets too, and decent odds, but their esports betting component remains the piece de resistance of their site. They have a massive range of esports markets, and excellent odds, so for esports punters – what more could you want?

The biggest competitor to Picklebet for the title of best esports betting site in Australia is Bet365. This global betting giant has such an incredible range of markets that it came as little surprise to me to see that they have esports markets too. And not just that – they’ve got heaps of them. This is not an esports betting site which just offers basic markets; they go above and beyond, providing a massive selection of different markets on individual events. Take a look at the below screenshot for an idea of how many esports markets they have available.

What’s more, Bet365 always has some of the most competitive odds in the industry no matter what you’re betting on. The same holds true for esports betting. Their huge selection of market is matched by great odds, making them one of the pre-eminent esports betting sites in Australia.

How to bet on Esports

In this section, we’re going to take a look at how you place bets on esports in Australia. Fortunately for those of you to whom this appeals, it’s a relatively straightforward thing to do and is no different to placing a bet on anything else. To make it clear, we’ll run through exactly how you do it in this section with a step by step process explaining how to bet on esports.

  • First, determine which of the aforementioned betting sites you wish to place a bet on esports with.
  • Find your way to that site.
  • If you haven’t already created an account, do so. This is simple and can be completed by simply clicking the ‘Join’ or ‘Sign Up’ button, usually in the top righthand corner of your screen, and following the prompts.
  • Navigate to the esports markets, which will be under the banner of ‘Sports’
  • Find your preferred event by scrolling through the list of different esports types, and then locating the specific matchup that you’re after.
  • Scroll through the different markets available for the matchup in question. If you’ve chosen a site like Picklebet or Bet365, there will be quite a few to scroll through.
  • Click on the odds next to the market on which you wish to bet, and your bet will come up in a betslip.
  • Enter the stake you wish to bet on this market into the appropriate box in your betslip, and you’ll be told what the winnings will be if the bet should win.
  • Finally, click confirm, and your bet will be placed.

See, easy! Placing a bet on esports is a simple process, and can be achieved in a couple of minutes by following the above simple steps.

Types of Esports Bets Australia

There are many different types of bets that you can place on esports in Australia. Of course, as mentioned above, some esports betting sites don’t have a particularly good range, and you’ll be quite limited in the types of bets that you can place. Others, however, have a much broader selection, and in this section we’ll take a look at all the different types of esports bets you’ll be able to find with esports betting sites in Australia.

Head to head: All esports betting sites in Australia will have head to head markets – this is the first market that will go up if a betting site choices to have markets for a given event. This is the simplest thing to bet on, so if you’re starting out I’d suggest beginning with this market. All it requires you to do is to select which player or team you think will win – or more specifically, which of them you think has the better odds relative to their winning chances.

Match line: In the same way you can place a line bet on certain sporting events, you can do the same for esports game. A line is simply a way to make the two teams even; so for example, you’ll give a handicap to the underdog. That means if you bet on the underdog, you win if they either win, or if they lose by less than a certain amount. These bets generally have roughly even odds.

Totals: This is a bet type which is also the same as some that you’ll find for sporting events. In certain esports, such as sporting ones, you can bet on the number of goals or points that you think will be scored in a certain matchup. Typically the bookmaker will set the number at what they predict it will be, and you’ll have the option to bet either over or under that number.

Game specific markets: There are a number of other markets which differ greatly depending on which type of esport it is that you’re betting on, and which betting company you’re using. For example, you might be able to bet on who will win a certain map in League of Legends (lol esports betting), or how many Rounds there will be on a certain map during a game of Counter Strike: Global Offensive (csgo esports betting). Check out the screenshot from Picklebet below for an example of how many markets for an individual game you can find on the best esports betting sites.

Esports Betting Payment Methods in Australia

The various betting sites in Australia which offer esports betting have a variety of different payment methods.. Each of these sites will be different in this regard; while some will have a very broad range of payment options, such as Bet365, others will be relatively limited and only offer the most basic of options. In this section, we’ll take a look at some of the most common payment options you’ll find on esports betting sites in Australia.

Debit/credit card: This is the most common form of depositing on all betting sites, and it’s no different for esports betting sites. This is the payment method I use every time I deposit, so as long as a bookmaker has this available, I don’t mind what other payment methods they’ve got. Using your debit/credit card is a super easy way to deposit; all that you need to do is enter your details, after which you will need to verify it to confirm that it’s yours. After that, your details will be saved and you’ll be able to quickly and easily deposit whenever you need to.

Bank transfer: Bank transfer can be a bit of an arduous way to deposit; you’ll generally need to wait a couple of days for the funds to arrive in your betting account if you use this method. For withdrawals, however, it’s often the best option. This simply requires you to enter your bank account details – again verifying them before you have the chance to use them – after which you can withdraw any funds in your betting account which you wish to return to your bank account. Generally, you’ll have to wait a day or two for these funds to arrive in your bank account.

PayPal: PayPal is another common and secure payment method. It’s not available with all esports betting sites like the above two, but it is available with most bookmakers. To deposit using this method you will of course need to have funds in your PayPal account, while withdrawing follows much the same method as withdrawing using bank transfer, only the money will end up in your PayPal account rather than your bank account.

POLi: POLi is a relatively common deposit-only method; that is, you can’t use this for withdrawals. For deposits, though, it’s a pretty good option. POLi directly accesses the money in your bank account and can then deposit it into your betting account, with these funds typically coming through immediately. Again, this is a safe and secure way to deposit money into your betting account.

These are some of the most common payment methods that you’ll find on esports betting accounts. Depending on the bookmaker that you use there may be a few more, but these are the ones that you’ll see the most often, with the first two in particular likely to be available with nearly every bookmaker.

Esports Betting Apps

Betting apps are an increasingly popular way to place bets, and it’s no different for all of the aforementioned sites which offer esports betting markets. These nifty little creations allow you to access everything that a betting site has to offer all from the comfort of your mobile phone, something which would have been close to inconceivable just a few short years ago.For me personally, and for many others I know, this has become the preferred way to bet, over and above the desktop sites.

It’s becoming increasingly rare for online betting sites to not have a betting app available, though there are still a handful which don’t. However, in these cases, you can always access the mobile version of the desktop site. Typically this isn’t quite as convenient as an app as it’s not strictly created for mobile, but they are generally pretty straightforward to use.

If you’re esports betting, then using a mobile app is no different to betting on sports. All you need to do is download the relevant app, and you’ll be able to quickly locate the esports section – likely under a ‘Sports’ tab – and then find the market you’re after.

Below, we’ve listed which of the esports betting sites that we have spoken about on this page have esports betting apps.

  • BoomBet
  • Bet365
  • SouthernCrossBet
  • Picklebet
  • Topsport
  • Unibet Australia
  • Palmerbet

FAQs

Is esports betting legal in Australia?

Yep, it certainly is. Esports falls into the same category as regular sports and racing; it’s legal to bet on, provided that the platform itself on which you are betting is legal. That is, if the betting site is licensed and regulated in Australia, and they offer esports markets, then esports betting in that case is legal. At BettingTop10, all of the betting sites which we review are licensed and regulated, so if you see it on our site and they offer esports, then you can be confident that betting on these events is legal.

How do you win esports betting?

There are a number of different ways that you can win when esports betting. Of course, as with all betting it’s simply a matter of selecting the market that you wish to bet on, and hoping that the outcome you’ve selected comes to fruition. What exactly this entails, however, depends on the bet type.

Esports betting sites will typically have the most basic bet types such as head to head and line betting, bet types in which you bet on a certain player or team winning a particular event, sometimes by a certain margin. The best esports betting sites will also have a bunch of other markets too, so you might be able to bet on things which are a little more specific, such as a certain Map or various other things.

What are the best esports betting sites?

On this page, we’ve taken a look at all of the different betting sites that we at BettingTop10 have reviewed which offer esports markets. Each of these provide a good platform to bet on esports, but a couple of them stand out. As mentioned earlier, Picklebet and Bet365 are the standouts, offering an unparalleled range of markets on esports and decent esports betting odds at that.

However, depending on exactly what you’re looking for, a different esports betting site might be best for you. For example, if you’re just going to bet on head to head markets then any of the esports betting sites we’ve mentioned will be adequate, and you might then begin to focus on other factors. For example, you might want the site with the best customer support, or a great app, and all you need in terms of esports betting is the most simple of markets.

How does esports betting work?

Esports betting works in exactly the same way as betting on sports and racing. All that you need to do is decide which market you wish to bet on, add it to your betslip and then determine the stake that you wish to put on the selected market.

Once you’ve done this, you can place your bet and hope that it turns out to be a good one!

How to sign up with esports betting sites

Signing up with esports betting sites is easy. The sites which offer esports betting all have the same – or similar – simple sign up process as every other betting site, none of which make it particularly hard to sign up. After all, they want to make it as easy as possible for you to create an account!

No matter which esports betting site you’re using, the process is relatively similar. Below, we’ve outlined all the steps that you need to follow to sign up with an esports betting site, after which you can begin betting on esports.

  • Navigate to the betting site on which you wish to bet on esports.
  • Locate the ‘Sign Up’ or ‘Join’ button – this will typically be found in the top righthand corner of the home page, as shown in the screenshot below.

  • Fill in the information which the betting site asks you for – typically this will be a bunch of basic personal info such as your name and date of birth, while you’ll also have to create account details – this includes your username, password and a deposit limit if you wish to set one.
  • Once you’ve done all this, simply click ‘Confirm’ or whatever button is at the bottom of the page, and you’ll be good to go.
  • At some point, you will likely need to verify your account to validate your identity and ensure you are able to both deposit and withdraw.
