Saturday Racing Tips Rosehill 16/03/24

Our main horse racing tips come from Rosehill on Saturday where we have a $16.00 Roughie as well as a best bet and a next best. 

Another Group 1 race on Saturday with the Coolmore Classic having a great looking field of fillies and mares heading to the barriers for race 8 on the card. There are also two Group 2 races and four Group 3 races as part of the 10 to enjoy with prices on the betting sites already on the move with money starting to flow. We have a $16.00 roughie on the card that looks overpriced as well as our best bet and next best on the day.

BEST BET - #3 Lindermann
Not the most regular winner, just 3/18 in his career but he is a perfect 2/2 when he has raced at Rosehill. His two runs so far in 2024 have both come against far stronger company than he faces here, 6th in the Apollo first up over 1400m and then stepping up on that over 1600m in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant behind Think It Over and Fangirl. He won the Rosehill Guineas over this distance 12 months ago and at Group 3 level, he can get the job done again. 

THE DANGER - #4 Just Fine
Behind the best bet in both the Caulfield Stakes in October and the Verry Elleegant Stakes last time out. The stretch out to 2000m again is going to be a plus for him as he showed his best form in England over this sort of distance, saluting in the Group 1 Metropolitan over 2400m at Randwick in September. That might allow him to get a little closer but the pick should have too much of a kick for him unless he is able to set a strong enough tempo to run the finish out of him. 

VALUE BET  - #8 Athabascan
Another one in here who brings form from the Verry Elleegant to the table, he finished 6th on that occasion, behind Lindermann but in front of Just Fine. 1600m is far too short a distance for him so it is to his credit that he was not beaten all that far. The stretch out to 2000m here is going to be a big plus for him, for all that he would appreciate a touch further again with his top form in the spring coming over 2500m. A Group 3 winner at this track over 2400m in September, it will be interesting to see how forward Tommy Berry is on him in a small field.

BEST BET - #4 Red Card 
Progressive mare got her head back in front when last in action, saluting in a Benchmark 94 over this track and distance at the end of February. She was in front of Omni Man that day and although she is 2kg worse off at the weights here, the impression was that she had a bit up her sleeve and can step up on that again. She has a great barrier on the inside to track the pace and be in the perfect position to strike. 

THE DANGER - #7 Omni Man
Capable enough type with seven wins in his first 17 career strikes and ran well in the race mentioned above against Red Card. That was on a Soft 6 surface and he has a record of 5/7 when he has raced on good so that should help him get right in contention again. He has a win and a second in four starts at this track so has a fair record here in the past as well.  

VALUE BET  - #12 Rich Fortune
Has a win at this Group 3 level last February and has been keeping some solid company of late. Most recently she ran an absolute stormer in the Group 1 Lightning at Flemington. She finished 5th there, only 2.4l behind the winner Imperatriz. That level of form stands out at this level if she is able to produce it again at a different track off a different sort of pace. If she can, then she is massively overpriced in this sort of contest with 1100m the perfect distance for her.

BEST BET - #17 Kimochi
Runner-up in both the Flight Stakes and the 1000 Guineas in the spring, she deserves to get her head in front at Group 1 level. Both of those were on good ground which will be what she gets here but she also goes fine on soft as she showed when winning a Group 2 two starts back. Had an excuse in the Surround last time out when she got her tongue in the wrong position, over instead of under the bit, so she struggled to show her best. Connections fit a bit lifter for the first time which can stop that issue from happening again. 

THE DANGER - #6 Tropical Squall
Was the winner of the Surround last time out over 1400m, enhancing her exceptional record first up, a perfect 3/3 when she has been fresh. That is probably the time that she needs to be caught but that level of form is going to make her a big player if she is able to produce that again second up. There was very little pressure on her on the front that day but there might be some more here on the front end which will make things a little tougher, especially from a wider barrier than is ideal for one who likes to run close to the pace. 

VALUE BET  - #1 Zougotcha
Impressive on her return to action in a Group 2, improving a smart record when she is fresh. She has a decent record when she has run here in the past, winning two of her four prior starts at Rosehill. She might prefer a little more juice in the ground, 1/5 when the ground has been good as it is here but 3/4 when it has been soft. There might be a few showers on Friday but there is not enough to think that it is going to make any impact on the going so perhaps a place is the best she can hope for given that she is conceding weight to all of her rivals.
