Randwick looks set for domination by the Joseph Pride and the Gai Waterhouse teams on Saturday with some well-fancied favourites.

There are a number of short prices with the horse racing bookmakers on the Randwick card this weekend on a card that has a pair of Group 1 races supported by three Group 2’s, two Group 3’s and a couple of Listed races as well. This should be an exceptional afternoon of racing.

Randwick R4 #2 - Red Resistance $2.50

Has been away from race action for an entire year, last seen when splitting Cylinder and Militarize in the Group 2 Todman at this track last March. He has seen plenty of trial action in the meantime and there are very few concerns with fitness after a break when it comes to the powerhouse team of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. He had looked an exceptional two-year-old, beating future Golden Slipper winner Shinzo in the Canonbury at Rosehill last January and he can get back to winning ways here.

Randwick R6 #1 - Private Eye $2.30

This is a Group 2 contest for Private Eye who was third in the Everest last October and was second best to only Imperatriz in the Lightning Stakes on his first start of the spring. This is still over 1000m which is probably not his perfect trip but the step down the ladder into a Group 2 is going to make all the difference with none of these opponents remotely close to that sprinting star. He has three wins in five starts in Group 2 races and should be able to add to that record here.

Randwick R7 #1 - Think About It $1.90

The winner of the 2023 Everest is one of the top sprinters in the country and with his main rival for that crown in action at Flemington on Saturday afternoon, the Canterbury Stakes looks like a relatively straightforward task for the Joseph Pride-trained speedball. He was a touch disappointing in the Winners when last seen but that was a quick backup after the Everest and he will have been trained for the Randwick race. 4/4 first up in a prep, he can extend that excellent record when fresh here.

Stats and Insights

  • Randwick is a galloping course with a straight that runs for over 400m to the line.
  • Only the powerhouses of Waterhouse, Waller and Maher have more winners at Randwick this season than Joseph Pride who runs Private Eye and Think About It.
  • Inside barriers have a marginal advantage over most distances.
  • Nash Rawiller has an ROI of +49 at Randwick in the last 12 months. He rides Red Resistance and Private Eye.

What an afternoon in store at Randwick on Saturday! Not only these races above but there are a couple of fascinating two-year-old races where Waterhouse and Bott will look to strengthen their stronghold over the age group. We are in for a corker of a day and hopefully three winners in our multibet!
