Best Multibet Tips of the Weekend | March 16th

The All-Star Mile is the Saturday highlight at Caulfield and we have a selection in the big race of the day in our multibet.

It’s All-Star Mile day and the $3.75 million race has a short-priced favourite with the horse racing bookmakers and that is justifiably so. Mr Brightside is the star attraction of the Saturday card at Caulfield with most racing fans hoping that he can continue his exceptional run of form.

Caulfield R6 #2 - Bold Bastille $1.60

A big day for Ben, Will and JD Hayes at Caulfield and this two-year-old filly can help to settle the nerves. She came back lame on her second start but she won either side of that, beating a very nice type on her debut in Hayasugi. That filly took advantage of this one going lame to win and then went on to land the Blue Diamond. Bold Bastille looked sharp at Flemington two weeks ago and the extra 100m are not a concern for all that she is a very strong traveller at 1000m.

Caulfield R7 #11 - Peace Treaty $2.20

With three wins from her first four starts, she has looked a smart recruit but more importantly, we do not yet know just how good she could be. Last in race action at the end of 2023, she turned a race at The Valley into a procession from the front. Prominent tactics are generally helpful there but she was more than three lengths too good over 1200m. She has a bit on at the weights with a couple in here so she is going to need a touch more but there should still be better to come.

Caulfield R8 #1 - Mr Brightside $1.75

A horse who needs no introduction, he is the top 1600m performer in Victoria. He won this race last year and has since added to his tally of Group 1 wins which now stands at six. The only tiny concern here is that he has drawn a wide barrier in 11 but he has wins over his main rivals here already this season and that is going to make him a very hard horse to stop even if his starting position is not ideal. Pride Of Jenni will set some solid fractions for him to chase down and he can add to his excellent record at this track.

Stats and Insights

  • Caulfield is 2080m around with a run-in of 367m.
  • Mr Brightside has run six times at Caulfield, he has won five of those.
  • Races over 1400m and 1600m have the biggest barrier bias to the inside.
  • Jamie Kah has back-to-back Saturdays with a Group 1 winner. She rides Peace Treaty in race 7 but not in a Group 1.

Mr Brightside still has a way to go if he is to go down as one of the all-time greats of Australian racing. A second All-Star Mile win will give him another string to his bow as the current top 1600m performer at present and he can close out our multibet with a win.
