Te Akau Racing looks set to enjoy a remarkable Saturday at The Valley with a string of strong chances on the 10-race card.

It’s another Group 1 weekend in Victoria with the William Reid Stakes at The Valley. There are also a pair of Group 2 races, two Group 3’s and a Listed race amongst the 10 as the big Autumn races roll on.

The Valley R5 #1 - Campionessa $3.40

Beat Vow And Declare and Gold Trip in a Group 2 last time out and now returns to race against her own sex in what looks a softer race on paper. She has plenty in hand on her rivals at these weights given the respective ratings of this field and that class edge should tell. Others have a little more in the way of potential when it comes to future progression than the selection does but her strong form that is already in the book makes her the one to beat.

The Valley R7 #12 - Quintessa $3.60

Another who has an outstanding chance at these weights with plenty in hand on official ratings over her rivals. She took on the boys in the Australian Guineas in her most recent race, finishing 4th in that contest, losing nothing in defeat. She did some excellent work from off the pace over 1600m that day and looks well set for this step up in distance to 2040m. Her dam won over as far as 2700m and her sire was a Cox Plate winner over this same course and distance so she is bred to relish the new trip.

The Valley R8 #8 - Imperatriz $1.60

A mare that needs no introduction, she is a perfect 4/4 when she has raced at The Valley in the past. She was turned over in the Newmarket on her most recent start but that was under a big impost that she was not far off defying. Subsequently, she was found to have blood in her nostrils which makes it excusable as a defeat and although that is a slight concern that she might bleed again, and a barrier draw in 10 is far from ideal, she is the class act in this race.

Stats and Insights

  • The Valley is just over 1800m around with a home straight of 173m. Those distances make it a unique test for horses and jockeys.
  • All three horses in our Saturday multibet represent the same team.
  • A low barrier draw is generally a positive at The Valley with runners regularly on the turn.
  • Imperatriz has never tasted defeat when she has run at The Valley.

It is all eggs in one basket at The Valley on Saturday with Mark Walker sending a very strong team to the Melbourne track. Opie Bosson will be in the saddle for all three of the selections with all carrying the now-famous colours of the Te Akau Racing Partnership.
