Man United’s Mason Mount injured and is ruled out until mid-September

Manchester United have revealed that Mason Mount will be out until mid-September due to an injury he picked up against Tottenham last week.

  • Manchester United have described his injury as a “small complaint.”
  • Mount will be out until after the September international break.
  • Christian Eriksen is the most likely replacement for Mount.
  • Mount’s two-game absence could give Erik ten Hag a chance to figure out his best midfield combination.

Manchester United’s Mason Mount will miss the club’s next two matches against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, respectively. The club said via a statement that Mount suffered a “small complaint” against Tottenham last week that will keep the English international out until after the September international break, which ends on September 12.

Mount joined Manchester United this summer from Chelsea for £60m ($100.3m AUD). The former Blue has started both of Manchester United’s first two Premier League games this season.

“Small complaint” says Manchester United

Mason Mount played all but 15 minutes of Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last week. In his 85 minutes on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pitch, Mount apparently suffered a minor injury.

The Englishmen did not appear to be injured when he was called off the field. Manchester United have described his injury as a “small complaint.” The club statement does not detail any other specifics about the injury. However, the Red Devils have disclosed how long Mount will be out.

According to the club’s statement, Mount will be out until after the September international break. This means that the £60m midfielder will miss Manchester United’s games against Nottingham Forest and rival Arsenal.

If Mount’s injury is as minor as the club believe it to be, the 24-year-old will be next available for Manchester United’s September 16th matchup against a tough Brighton side at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag forced to adapt

With Mason Mount out, Manchester United Erik ten Hag will be forced to reshuffle his midfield and select Mount’s replacement.

Christian Eriksen is the most likely replacement for Mount. However, ten Hag also has available to him Scott McTominay, who is currently strongly linked to West Ham, and the young Facundo Pellistri, who was subbed in for Mount against Tottenham.

Whoever ten Hag chooses, Manchester United should not have a problem against Nottingham Forest. Besides giving Arsenal a scare late, Forest have looked about as many expected this season. They are tipped to go down by many sports betting sites for a reason.

According to PlayUp, Manchester United are huge favourites. They give the Red Devils 1.30 odds to beat Forest outright and have given Forest a +1.5 handicap.

Blessing in disguise for ten Hag?

One of the early storylines of the 2023/24 EPL season is just how out-of-whack Manchester United seem compared to their high offseason expectations. The Red Devils laboured to a 1-0 victory against Wolves to start the season before getting thrashed 2-0 by Tottenham in matchweek 2.

The midfield combination of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro has been blamed by many experts for Man United’s early woes. Because of this, Mount’s two-game absence could give Erik ten Hag a chance to figure out his best midfield combination and decide whether Mount will be his man for the rest of the season.

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount will miss at least the next two games because of an injury he suffered in last weekend’s match against Tottenham. The club have described the injury as a “small complaint.”

Mount will be out until after the September international break, which ends on September 12.
