Manchester United are set to enter a new era next season, with investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and big changes to the squad expected. One of those changes could be the exit of current club captain Bruno Fernandes. The 29-year-old told DAZN in his home country of Portugal that he will consider his future after the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

Before then, Manchester United have an FA Cup final matchup against Manchester City on May 25 and four Premier League matches left to play.

Fernandes tells all in interview about his future

Speaking to DAZN Portugal, Bruno Fernandes revealed that he is not thinking much about his future at Manchester United.

“I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far,” Fernandes said.

He clarified that, if he does think about his future with the club, it will not be until after the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

The Man Utd captain said, “If you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros.”

Fernandes is under contract with Manchester United until 2026. In March, he revealed the he spoke with the club’s owners, telling them that he would like to stay at the club. However, he added that “I want to be competitive, I want to compete, I want to win.”

Man United have won just one trophy, the Carabao Cup last season, since joining the Red Devils from Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2020. In his second season with the club, Man United recorded their worst ever Premier League finish, ending the season in 6th with just 58 points.

FA Cup Final looming for Man Utd

Fernandes and Man United can double their trophy total since 2020 at the end of this month if they win their FA Cup final matchup against Man City.

City are huge favourites with the soccer betting sites. Pep Guardiola’s side have $1.36 odds to win, compared to Man Utd’s $7.25 odds at PlayUp Sportsbook. PlayUp have also made Man City -1.5 goal favourites.

Despite the odds, Fernandes is optimistic. “Nothing will take my focus away from this end of the championship, the FA Cup and the European Championship. There is nothing more important than that at the moment,” the player said.

We can end the season by winning the FA Cup, then we have the European Championship, which is very important for us.”

Fernandes transfer options

If Bruno Fernandes does leave the club this offseason, he will not be short of suitors.

PSG, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Barcelona have all been linked to the Portuguese superstar. Premier League rivals Chelsea have also been rumoured, but that seems unlikely. There are also some reports saying a Saudi Pro League club could make a move for the Manchester United captain, should he be made available.

Manchester United have five matches left in their season, four in the Premier League and the FA Cup final. Once those matches are done, players like Fernandes, and the club will have a lot of decisions to make about who stays and who goes.
